How to Write 0 in Cursive
Cursive 0 is the simplest numeral to form — a single closed oval drawn in one continuous counter-clockwise motion. Despite its simplicity, the zero is also the digit most often misread because of its visual overlap with the letter O and, in poorly written script, the digit 6. Mastering a clean, slightly taller-than-wide oval is the foundation for legible numerals across dates, addresses, and currency amounts.

How to Form the Cursive Number “0”
Begin near the top of the numeral height, slightly right of centre. Sweep up and to the left, then down in a smooth counter-clockwise arc, curving back around to close cleanly at the starting point. Keep the shape narrow and vertical — taller than it is wide — so it cannot be confused with the letter O, which tends to be rounder.
- ✗ Drawing the oval too round, making it indistinguishable from the letter O
- ✗ Leaving a gap at the top where the stroke fails to close
- ✗ Adding a slash or dot inside (a programmer convention) when writing for general audiences who will not recognise it
- ✗ Tilting the oval so far to the right that it begins to look like a 6 or 9

Practice Tips for Cursive “0”
- 1Drill rows of pure ovals before adding any other digit — the 0 motion is the foundation for 6, 8, and 9.
- 2Compare your 0 against a capital cursive O written next to it; adjust width until the two are visually distinct.
- 3Practise writing '100' and '1000' to train consistent oval sizing across repeated zeroes.
- 4If the closing point is messy, slow down at the top and lift the pen slightly before completing the arc.
