Match the Lettering to the Discord Surface
Avatars and server icons are tiny and usually circular. A full cursive username may look polished at export size but collapse into an unreadable line in the member list. Test initials, a short display name, or one distinctive capital before committing to a long lockup.
Banners and announcement images offer more room, but they still appear at different sizes on desktop and mobile. Keep important lettering away from edges and interface overlays. Pair script with plain text for dates, rules, event times, and instructions so members can scan and copy the information.
Usernames, display names, channel names, and chat messages do not inherit a font from a pasted preview. Copying ordinary text transfers the letters only. Decorative Unicode characters are a separate technique and may be difficult for screen readers, moderation tools, search, or members using unsupported devices.
Create a Discord-Ready Name Graphic
Pick one destination
Choose an avatar, server icon, profile banner, event graphic, or announcement first. Note the visible shape and test size before styling the name.
Reduce the wording
For small icons, try initials or one short word. For banners, keep the script to a name or headline and move supporting details into plain type or the accompanying message.
Export a high-contrast PNG
Generate the lettering, download the image, and place it on a background that keeps every stroke visible. Leave a wide margin around artwork that will receive a circular crop.
Review in the actual client
Upload the graphic and inspect it in the member list, channel header, profile panel, and mobile client as relevant. Check whether compression or scaling closes small gaps or clips flourishes.
Text, Cropping, and Community Access
A decorative name can establish a mood, but Discord still needs readable text for navigation and conversation. Use the image as identity, not as the only source of information.
Typed text stays plain text
The selected cursive font will not carry into a username, display name, channel name, or message. Use the PNG in supported image surfaces and retain a searchable plain-text name.
Protect the crop
Icons and avatars are presented in circles or compact interface slots. Keep the name centered, shorten it when necessary, and leave empty space around capitals, descenders, and ending strokes.
Design for compression and moderation
Thin details can blur after upload, while image-only rules or announcements are harder to search and moderate. Repeat essential content in the message and add a concise description when context requires it.
Discord Asset Directions
A useful Discord identity system adapts one lettering idea to several constraints. Do not force the full name into every slot.
Arcadia
Community server icon
Test the capital A alone before the whole server name. Keep it centered with generous clearance so the circular crop does not touch the entry or exit stroke.
Mina
Personal avatar
Choose a compact, heavier script and view it at member-list size. If the full name blurs, switch to M and reserve the complete treatment for the profile banner.
Friday Sketch Club
Event announcement
Use “Sketch Club” as the script headline, then put the day, time, timezone, and joining instructions in plain text within the image and the accompanying message.
Check Before Uploading
- Keep a plain-text username or server name for search and recognition
- Preview icons and avatars at their real small size inside a circle
- Repeat dates, rules, and instructions in the accompanying message
- Inspect both desktop and mobile crops after Discord processes the image
